Saint Caesarius of Arles
Saint Caesarius of Arles (c. 470–542) was a monk and later bishop of Arles in Gaul, renowned for his preaching and pastoral reforms. He promoted frequent, practical catechesis and produced many homilies that circulated widely in the early Middle Ages. He also founded and guided women’s monastic communities, providing a well-known Rule for nuns. In a turbulent era of shifting kingdoms, he worked for peace, church discipline, and care for the poor. He is remembered as one of the great bishops and teachers of the early Western Church.
