Saint Julian, martyr of Brioude, was a Roman soldier who converted to Christianity and suffered martyrdom in the 4th century. He is venerated as the first martyr of the town of Brioude in Gaul (modern-day France). According to tradition, Julian was beheaded for his faith during the persecutions under Emperor Diocletian. His relics became objects of great devotion, and a basilica was built in his honor at Brioude.
