Gregory the Great
St. Gregory the Great was a pope who lived from c. 540 to 604 AD. He is known as one of the four great Doctors of the Western Church and is the patron saint of musicians, singers, students, and teachers. As pope, he initiated the first Gregorian chants and reformed the liturgy. He also sent missionaries to evangelize England and is credited with strengthening the papacy's influence in Europe. Gregory is remembered for his compassion for the poor and his prolific writings, which had a significant impact on medieval spirituality and theology.
