S. Mother Theresa of Calcutta

Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997) was a Roman Catholic nun who dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor. Born in Skopje, Macedonia, she joined the Sisters of Loreto in 1928 and began teaching at a convent school in Calcutta, India. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation devoted to caring for "the poorest of the poor." Mother Teresa's compassionate work among the destitute, the dying, and the marginalized earned her worldwide acclaim and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She is venerated for her selfless service and her commitment to uplifting the dignity of all human beings.
