Saint Rosalia

Saint Rosalia

St. Rosalia was a 12th-century Italian saint and the patron saint of Palermo, Sicily. She was born into a noble family but chose to live as a hermit in a cave on Mount Pellegrino, near Palermo. Rosalia is said to have had a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who instructed her to live a life of solitude and penance. She died in her cave around 1166 AD and her body was discovered in 1624, leading to the city's deliverance from a plague. Rosalia is venerated for her devotion to God and her intercession in times of need. She is the patron saint of Palermo and is often depicted holding a cross or a skull, symbols of her piety and asceticism.
