Bd. Victor III, pope

Blessed Victor III was Pope from 1086 to 1087. Born Daufer of Benevento, he was a Benedictine monk and abbot of Monte Cassino. As pope, he worked to reform the Church and combat simony. He is known for his defense of papal authority against the Holy Roman Emperor. Victor III is venerated for his piety and his role in the Gregorian Reforms.
