Lorenzo Ruiz

Saints Lorenzo Ruiz and Companions were Catholic martyrs who were executed in Japan in 1637. Lorenzo Ruiz was a Filipino layman who had moved to Japan as a missionary. He and 15 other Christians were arrested, tortured, and killed for their faith. Lorenzo Ruiz is the first Filipino saint and the patron saint of the Philippines.
