St. Paulinus, Bishop of York, Disciple of St. Gregory the Great
St. Paulinus was a Roman missionary and the first Bishop of York, England. He was sent by Pope Gregory the Great to assist in the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity in the early 7th century. Paulinus played a key role in the baptism of King Edwin of Northumbria and the establishment of Christianity in the region. After the death of King Edwin, Paulinus fled to the south, but is remembered for his tireless evangelization and his legacy as a patron saint of the Diocese of York.
