St. Willibrord, Bishop of Northern Europe

St. Willibrord (658-739 AD) was a Northumbrian missionary who became the apostle of the Frisians. Born in Northumbria, England, he traveled to Ireland for his education and was ordained a priest. Later, he went to Rome and was consecrated as a bishop by Pope Sergius I, who sent him to evangelize the Frisians. Willibrord spent over 50 years spreading Christianity in the Low Countries, founding churches and monasteries. He is venerated as the patron saint of the Netherlands and the Diocese of Utrecht. Willibrord is known for his tireless missionary work and is remembered for his courage, wisdom, and devotion to the faith.
