Saint Melchiades, pope and martyr
Saint Melchiades, pope and martyr, served as Bishop of Rome from 311 to 314. He witnessed the end of Christian persecution under Emperor Constantine and was one of the last popes to suffer during times of oppression. Melchiades is remembered for his holiness and faithful leadership during a pivotal era. He died in 314 and is honored as a martyr in the Church.
