Saint Damasus I

St. Damasus I was the 37th Pope of the Catholic Church, serving from 366 to 384 AD. Born in Rome around 305 AD, he was known for his scholarly and administrative abilities, and his promotion of the cult of the martyrs. As Pope, he commissioned the Vulgate Bible translation and encouraged the veneration of relics. He is recognized for his defense of the divinity of Christ against the Arian heresy. Damasus I is the patron saint of archaeologists and is commemorated on December 11th.
