St. Maurus, Martyr on the via Salaria
St. Maurus was a Roman martyr who suffered and died for his Christian faith on the Via Salaria in Rome. Though little is known about his life, he is believed to have lived during the 3rd or 4th century AD. Maurus was arrested and executed for his refusal to renounce his Christian beliefs. He is venerated as a courageous saint who remained steadfast in his faith even unto death. St. Maurus is the patron saint of those who suffer from gout and is invoked for protection against sudden death.
