Blessed Laura, who offered her life for her mother's conversion
Laura Vicuña was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1891. After her father's death, her family moved to Argentina, where her mother entered into an irregular relationship with a wealthy landowner. Laura was educated by the Salesian Sisters, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, in Junín de los Andes, where she grew in Christian virtue. Aware of her mother's situation, she offered her life to God for her mother's conversion and died in 1904 at the age of fourteen. Pope John Paul II beatified her in 1988, holding her up as a model of filial love and sacrifice.
