Philip of Jesus
Saint Philip of Jesus was a Mexican Franciscan missionary and the first Mexican to be canonized as a saint. Born in Mexico City in 1572, he initially lived a wayward life before joining the Franciscans. He was sent as a missionary to Japan, where he was arrested during anti-Christian persecutions. Along with his companions, Philip was crucified at Nagasaki in 1597, becoming one of the 26 Martyrs of Japan. He is the patron saint of Mexico City and a symbol of faithfulness under persecution.
