Amandus of Maastricht
Saint Amandus of Maastricht was a 7th-century missionary and bishop, known for evangelizing Flanders and parts of modern Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. He founded many monasteries, including the famous abbey at Elnon (later Saint-Amand-les-Eaux). Renowned for his asceticism and zeal, he also played a key role in church reforms. He is venerated as the patron saint of brewers, innkeepers, and vintners. Saint Amandus’s missionary work greatly influenced the Christianization of Northwestern Europe.
