Sts. Charles Lwanga and Companions, Martyrs of Uganda
Sts. Charles Lwanga and Companions were a group of 22 Ugandan martyrs who were killed between 1885-1887 for their Christian faith. Charles Lwanga was a court official who converted to Catholicism and helped instruct and protect other young Christians. They were executed on the orders of Mwanga II, the King of Buganda, for refusing to renounce their faith. These martyrs are venerated for their courage and steadfastness in the face of persecution. They are the patron saints of Catholic youth and converts in Africa.
