St. Leo III, pope
St. Leo III was the Pope of the Catholic Church from 795 to 816 AD. Born in Rome, he was known for his staunch defense of Catholicism and his efforts to reform the Church. During his pontificate, he crowned Charlemagne as the first Holy Roman Emperor, solidifying the alliance between the Papacy and the Frankish Kingdom.
