St. Onuphrius, anachorite
St. Onuphrius was an Egyptian Christian ascetic who lived as a hermit in the Thebaid desert during the 4th century. Born around 300 AD, he spent over 60 years in solitude, devoting his life to prayer and penance. Onuphrius is renowned for his extreme austerity, living on herbs and roots and wearing only a garment woven from palm leaves. He is said to have performed many miracles and was visited by fellow hermit St. Paphnutius, who recorded Onuphrius' life story. Onuphrius is venerated as a patron of hermits, recluses, and those seeking a life of solitude and contemplation.
