St. Clare of Montefalco, Augustinian Abbess

St. Clare of Montefalco (1268-1308) was an Augustinian abbess and mystic from Italy. Born in Montefalco, she entered the Augustinian convent at a young age and later became its abbess. Clare was known for her deep spiritual life, visions, and miraculous events associated with her. She is venerated for her holiness and mystical experiences, including the appearance of the Crucified Christ's instruments of Passion in her heart after her death. St. Clare is the patron saint of Montefalco and is invoked for those suffering from mental illness.
