Saint Raymund, confessor of Nonnatus
Saint Raymund Nonnatus was a Spanish Mercedarian priest born in 1204 near Barcelona. He is known for his devotion to the ransom of Christian captives from Moorish imprisonment. Raymund was given the surname 'Nonnatus' meaning 'not born,' as he was delivered by caesarean section. He suffered for the faith, including having his lips padlocked, and is the patron saint of childbirth, midwives, and those falsely accused.
