Sts. Protus and Hyacinth, Martyrs on the via Salaria
Sts. Protus and Hyacinth were Christian martyrs who suffered persecution and death during the 3rd century in Rome. They were brothers, originally from Alexandria, Egypt, and served as chamberlains to the Roman noblewoman St. Eugenia. When Eugenia's Christian faith was discovered, Protus and Hyacinth were arrested, tortured, and eventually beheaded for refusing to renounce their own Christian beliefs. They are venerated as patrons of those facing persecution for their faith.
