St. Euphemia, Martyr of Chalcedon
St. Euphemia was a Christian martyr who lived in the 3rd century AD in Chalcedon, Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). She was put to death during the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Euphemia bravely endured various tortures, including being thrown to wild beasts in the arena, but miraculously survived. She was eventually killed by the sword. Euphemia is venerated as a courageous witness to the Christian faith. She is the patron saint of Chalcedon and is invoked for protection against earthquakes.
