Saint Emeric, prince of Hungary
Saint Emeric, also known as Imre, was the son of King Stephen I of Hungary and Queen Gisela of Bavaria, born around 1007. He was educated by Bishop Gerard of Csanád, who instilled in him deep piety and learning. Tradition holds that Emeric took a vow of perpetual chastity, even within his marriage, dedicating his life to God. He died in 1031 as a result of a hunting accident, before he could succeed his father as king. He was canonized in 1083 together with his father, King Stephen, and is venerated as a patron of Hungarian youth.
