Saint Giovanna (Joan) of Arc

Saint Giovanna (Joan) of Arc

Saint Giovanna (Joan) of Arc was a French virgin and martyr who said she was guided by heavenly voices to help restore the rightful king of France. She led French forces in key moments of the Hundred Years’ War and became a symbol of faith and courage. Captured by enemies, she was tried and condemned, and she died by burning at the stake in 1431. A later retrial declared her innocent, and she was canonized in 1920. She is widely honored as a patron of France and of those who seek courage and fidelity to God’s call.
