Saint Arnold of Soissons
Saint Arnold of Soissons was an 11th-century Benedictine monk and the Bishop of Soissons, France. He is best known as the patron saint of brewers and hop-pickers, due to his encouragement of local people to drink beer instead of water to avoid disease. Arnold dedicated his life to serving the poor and founded the Abbey of Saint Peter in Oudenburg. He is often depicted with a mashing rake, a tool used in brewing.
