Saint Raymond Nonnatus was a Spanish Catholic saint who lived from 1204 to 1240. He was a cardinal and a member of the Mercedarian Order, a religious order dedicated to the redemption of Christian captives. Nonnatus was known for his work in ransoming and freeing slaves, and he is the patron saint of childbirth, midwives, and children. He was given the surname "Nonnatus" (meaning "not born") because he was delivered by Caesarean section after his mother died. Nonnatus was known for his compassion and his dedication to the poor and the marginalized. He is venerated as a saint for his selfless service and his commitment to the ideals of the Catholic Church.
